In 1970, Herb Lubalin and Tom Carnase designed ITC Avant Garde Gothic, inspired by the German Bauhaus movement of the 1920s. The font was made using the logo Lubalin made for the Avant Garde magazine. I think Avant Garde is cool because it has unique letters like a sloped A and V.
But you have to be careful not to use too many of these special letters. Ed Benguiat, a famous designer, once said that Avant Garde only looks good in the words Avant Garde. The Adidas logo uses Avant Garde.
You can get a free download of Avant Garde Font here. It’s in the TTF (TrueType) Format and you can use it for personal purposes without paying. For commercial use, you need to buy a license.
